Sun and Stars

Yes the stars understand the sun
For what is the sun but a star?
Though they cannot share the same sky
And that sadness rests heavy in the heart of the stars
For the sun's brilliance illuminated the sky
Warmed the great space
Even if it dimmed the stars' light

With the setting of the sun
The stars feel the vastness of their own sky
Great distance between those points of twinkling light
Cold and blackness keenly felt.
Still a longing for the sun's brilliance
But they can not share that sky
And the stars know the truth of it, as does the sun

The difference of day and night
Each races across the sky
Hoping to catch that brilliance of the other
And they do, but only as they dip into their own horizon
Making way for the other to rise
The sun and stars so loved each other
But they cannot share the same sky

  1. Dear Sweet Kim,
In the depth of the deep dark night, rain streaks teardrops down my window pane-my heart heavy as a millstone... my eyes blurred by the salty water sprung up from some ancient ocean of sadness.... my heart heavy with sorrow in the setting of the sun.... No love like this will I ever know again.... Your words thaw me and I fall crumbling to the ground... My dear sweet woman... See how the sun and stars are in heaven together but how could the sun and stars share the same sky? No, their worlds are beautiful but not the same.... and the sun knew that her world would dim the brilliance of the stars in the dark sky and she would lose the stars forever... And the Sun realized the sadness of it all... and knew what she had to do... For the sun so loved the stars that she set in the sky and peaks over the horizon to this day... hoping to get a glimpse of their beauty...
I do love you Kim and I could never change that...
    Love,
    Mary
