Fleeting

Summer heat gave way
Autumn made its way to this place
So like you overflowing vibrant and green
Bursting with the succulence of love
The sweetness of that fruit has gone by
My love for you left like the leaves
Began to wither on unnoticed branches

How I have missed you
The feel of your lips like summers heat
Warming my skin burning me alive
And like the summer you
Were brilliant, but fleeting
The full ripeness of love never known
That garden I could not cultivate

I had to loosen you from me
Your name cried out
Floods of tears to carry it
Across the waters to were you are
But that message in a bottle
Would not land on your shores
You only saw the wide ocean and setting sun

I have come full circle now
And it’s led me not to you
But back to where love lives in me
I still miss those arms that held me
Are you sorry for leaving the love we had begun?
Like summer you were fleeting
But the ripeness of love is still mine.
